Building Your Powerful Personal Brand

120414 Nick Post- Building Personal Brand

As business professionals, we all have the same “free” resources at our finger tips. Social media is an environment to showcase your personal brand, and how you invest is up to you. Here are the Social media platforms I take advantage of:

  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter
  • Facebook

Connecting the Platforms

Did you know you can connect all social networks to one? I use Buffer to make it easy to post. You can make one post, and it will post to all your platforms at the optimal time.

Another handy tool is pocket . It is designed to save a page for later use through clicking an icon, and you can schedule that page to share by using Buffer.

Audience

Every platform reach a different audience, and it is important to understand your target audience.

Each social networks have different peak times for positing! See below:

Tell Me a Captivating Story

Everyone has a story that has the potential to impact. However, the story must be relevant in order to attract viewers. The audience says, "Make me care," and if you are not proving your audience with useful content, then they most likely will not care.

Last week, I listened to a TED talk by Simon Sinek, and the title was Start with Why?. My main take-a-way was that "People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it". Hence, a story's delivery matters. Here are a few tips from Dave Kerpen, Founder & CEO of Likeable Local, on how to tell your story online: Telling your story online.

Wrapping Up

Lastly, do not let the steps overwhelm you. It certainly can be overwhelming at first, but building your powerful personal brand on Social Media is supposed to help, not hinder your performance as a professional.

It is time to step out of your shell and join the online world.
