I Feel Like I’m Failing…

but I’ve never felt more confident.

How successful people face difficult times.

It’s easy to feel confident when things are going well. But when you hit that bump in the road is when you need your confidence the most.

  • Confidence in yourself.
  • Confidence in your team.
  • Confidence in the values you hold for yourselves.
  • Confidence in your ability to set goals.
  • Confidence to make progress each day toward achieving those goals.

So why is it that when we need our confidence the most, we feel it slipping away?

It isn’t easy being the leader and why that’s a good thing.

It’s been said that life as a leader of an organization or team can be lonely. If you’re in one of those roles, you’ve probably had this feeling at different points in your career.

It’s helpful at these times to remember that everyone in your position feels that way at one point or another. It’s natural.

The trick is to not let the negative stress get you down. Negative stress shuts you down. It keeps you in a rut. And it prevents you from taking the very actions you need to take to get back on the road to progress.

Not all stress is negative. Think of that stress as nature’s way of telling you it’s time to make a move.

If you feel stalled out (and it’s easy to feel that way), it’s more important than ever to draw on the strengths and talents of your team to find the best paths toward positive progress.

When the going gets tough, the tough stay confident.

I’ve met people along my leadership journey who have a long pedigree of repeated success in whatever they put their mind to. But at various points, they’ve grown unsure, scared. They’ve even sometimes grown hopeless.

Every leader goes through it.

But to the outside world, it would be shocking to think of that person as anything less than successful based on their track record and history.

Regardless of how many companies they’ve built, people they’ve led, money they’ve made, great leaders succeed by enduring the valleys just as they celebrate the peaks.

It takes an incredible amount of humility to be vulnerable enough to learn from trying experiences when you believe you have the right answer.

Even though tough situations give you a few grey hairs and cause a few wrinkles, there’s often no better time to create opportunities and make your prospects even better than they were before.

Remember, great companies seldom develop from the status quo.

It’s change that is the crucible of greatness. Have faith in yourself. Believe in and empower your team. Open your mind to the unexplored opportunities ahead, and let confidence lead the way.
