That’s so you guys!

Finding “The Why” at Mavidea.

One of the things we hear the most comments on here at Mavidea is the Meet the Team page on our Mavidea website.

It has a few surprises that people might not expect on a typical “About Us” page on a website. For example, we have the usual business portraits of the crew – only you mouse over them to see baby pictures!

The response we hear when people see it is, “That’s so you guys!”

It is a lot of fun, but it has an important purpose. We think it answers the unspoken question that many potential clients really wish they could ask: “What are these people really like to work with?”

It always gets down to culture.

Creating a great culture is something we work on daily here at Mavidea.

We love it when people bring this subject up, because it’s a sign people out in the community are seeing our culture in play.

If we’re doing this right, they’re seeing the passion we have for our work and the care we provide to our customers. Going further, they see it in how we treat each other and our families and how we support our community.

These things aren’t just extras. They’re the reason. It’s something Simon Sinek calls, “Knowing Your Why.”

Knowing your “Why”.

We started the way Sinek suggests, by exploring a simple tool he calls, The Golden Circle.

The Golden Circle by Simon Sinek

Instead of starting with the outside with “The What” – which is what most companies do – we start with “The Why”. It’s a lot more work, but it’s worth it.

Because you have to get past the obvious questions of what you do and how you do it to the more fundamental question of, “Why?” This can down to some very personal and passionate reasons for why you get up in the morning and why your company exists.

The reason behind this, as Sinek tells us: “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”

If we look at a company like Apple, we can ask why would we buy things like phones, DVRs and MP3 players from a “computer company” when companies like Dell and Gateway haven’t been able to do the same.

It’s because everything Apple does is aligned with their “Why”, which means changing the status quo and “Thinking Different.”

Sinek explains, “When we communicate from the inside out, we’re talking directly to the part of the brain that drives behavior and then we allow people to rationalize it by the things we say and do [think: features and benefits]. This is where gut decisions come from.”

That’s why knowing your “Why” – and more importantly, living it – gets you so much more and really, makes it all so much better!

Knowing your “Why” creates attraction.

As Sinek explains, “The goal is not to do business with everybody who needs what you have. The goal is to do business with people who believe what you believe.”

So, when you decide to work this way, you don’t go after everyone. You attract people who are searching for the same “more”.  Sinek tells us, “If you talk about what you believe, you’ll attract those who believe what you believe.”

At Mavidea, we’ve determined that our Why is “becoming a servant of wisdom and to have fun doing it”.

So if you ask Mavideans, we get up every morning to ask smart questions, pursue the best solutions and make a difference for ourselves and the people we serve.

Or as we hope you’ll say about us, “That’s so you guys!”
