The 411 on Facebook Reviews

After my last post concerning the new reviews feature that facebook recently launched, I promised to come back once the feature had been in place for a while and answer some of your questions.

Below are the answers to the most popular questions about the Facebook Reviews feature:

“How do I read the reviews on my facebook page?”

Whether you’re logged in or not you can easily see any reviews that have been left on your page in the upper right hand corner of your feed. If you have star ratings at the top, but no actual reviews in the right hand corner that means people have rated you, but no one left a comment. Only those who leave a comment will automatically show up in your feed.

As you can see in the below example, Mavidea’s page has 15 ratings, but only one actual review/comment.

If you click on the small “See All” link within your reviews box, you can then see everyone who rated you, but didn’t leave a comment. One thing to note is that you can also leave a review and change the settings to “private” in which case that person who left the rating/review will not be seen.

“How do I get reviews on my facebook page?”

When this feature was first released, it took facebook awhile to implement the feature on their millions of facebook business pages, but now it is readily available to most businesses.

In order to get the review feature on your page, you need two things:

  1. Your page MUST be setup as an actual business page and not a personal page.
  2. The reviews feature is for businesses with locations, so if you have a physical address then you can get this feature. Go to your “About” section and add your physical address and this feature will be added to your page.

“How do I REMOVE this feature from my page?”

To remove this feature, simply remove your physical address from the “About” section. Unfortunately, this is the only way to remove this feature at this time.

“Can I comment on reviews like in Google Places?”

Yes! You now have the ability to like and/or comment on all the reviews written on your page just like any other comment or post someone makes. Similar to every other feature in Facebook, just click below the review in the “comment” link and it will give you the ability to respond.

  1. Hi Kim,
Thanks for the great intro in Facebook reviews. I have a question if you would know the answer to: as people can comment under reviews, is there any way to moderate (hide/delete/ban) these commenters if the comment appears to be spam or inappropriate? Thanks!

    1. Hi Giang,
Yes, there is an option to report them as spam to facebook. When you receive a new review, you now have that option to click the “report spam” button. It takes a little time for facebook to remove it, but we had one instance like this where the comment was clearly spam and it eventually was removed. Thanks!
