Mavidea Loves Games

What does a love for games create for a company like Mavidea? A great excuse to set up a game tournament to benefit a charity that also loves games!

To back up, every year Mavidea staff chooses 2-3 charities that they want to participate with and contribute their time, energy, and money to. This year, one of the charities we voted for was Child’s Play. A few of the employees at Mavidea have donated to or participated in events for this charity before and thought that their cause lined up with the beliefs of many staff members at Mavidea.

Our next step was to come up with a way to raise awareness and money…we could have done the traditional breakfast or walk or donation sheets, but we wanted to make it special and something we could share with others in a unique way. What better way to share information about this great charity and raise some money than a gaming tournament??

So, on Saturday January 14th, we hosted a Dominion Tournament. Dominion is a deck-building card game in which the players compete to gather the most valuable deck of cards, representing a Kingdom. We held the tournament at Gryfalia’s Arie, a game store in downtown Bloomington and provided food/beverages that were graciously provided by Kelly’s Bakery and Café and Flinger’s Pizza.

Together, we rose over $750 for Child’s Play, including both players and donors! Thank you to everyone who made this tournament a success – we hope to do it again!
