Book review by Nick Glimsdahl
“Most people just laugh when they hear that the secret to success is giving…Then again, most people are nowhere near as successful as they wish they were.”
This is a quote from the beginning of the book “The Go-Giver”. It is a little story about a powerful business idea. The book is about a motivated young man named Joe. Joe like a lot of go-getters believes the harder and faster he works, the better off he will be. Unfortunately, the more Joe pushes, the less his goals seem attainable. Just about the time when Joe is about to give up, he is introduced to the “old man” (Pindar) from a co-worker. Out of desperation, Joe decides to talk with Pinar, and they begin meeting weekly. Throughout the week, Joe is introduced to a handful of people who are all known as “go-givers”: a restaurant owner, a CEO, a financial advisor, a real estate broker, and the “Connector,” who brought everyone together. Throughout the book the “old man” explains Joe the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success, and helps him understand the power of giving.
Five Laws of Stratospheric Success
- The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
- The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
- The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people's interests first.
- The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
- The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.
Every time Joe is taught a new law, Pindar has him apply it to his life immediately.
Joe realizes the value of changing his focus from getting to giving.
At Mavidea Technology Group, it is our goal to give more in value than we take in payment.
Like in the book, once “I changed my focus from seeing what I could git to what I could give, my career started to take off.” I’m very passionate about caring for others, building relationships, and being the connector in my network. I could agree with Sam the financial advisor when he said “A network is people who know you, like you and trust you. They might never buy from you, but they’ve always got you in the back of their minds…They’re people who are personally invested in seeing you succeed…They are your personal walking ambassadors.”
The quicker we realize the importance of being genuine, serving other, put others needs before our own, the quicker we can have fun…
Nick gives EPIC high fives. Ask for one, he’ll share.
Nick, thank you for your VERY kind post about John David Mann’s and my book. Honored to know that you and the team at MAVIDEA found value in it. Again, huge thanks!
