Unbreakable

The quality is bad on this one so feel free to skip it if you want to.

This is one of my all time favorite movie scenes.  It is the scene from the movie Unbreakable where Bruce Willis lifts weights.

In the movie, Bruce Willis plays an everyday Joe that finds out he is a super hero.  Slowly but surely, he tests the limits of what he previously thought he could do and finds that he is capable of amazing things.  In this scene, he keeps adding weights while he is lifting only to find out that he can lift an amount he previously thought was unthinkable.

The reason I like this scene (and this movie) is not because of the cool “super hero” things that he finds out he can do, but because it shows us that we are all putting up artificial barriers for ourselves in our everyday life and that they can be broken down.

How would react if I told you that you were a super hero?

How would react if I told you that you were a millionaire?

How would  you react if I told you that you were the next President of the United States?

Would you start testing your limits?  Would you push through some of the artificial barriers you have put in your own way?

This movie and scene also reminds me of my favorite Mr. Warmbir line.  When we were first getting started as a company, he said to me “human beings are infinitely capable”.  At first I just nodded my head and moved on.  But since then, that line has lit a fire in me.  Started off as a little ember, hardly noticeable.  But as each day passes and as I continue to move forward in my own “be the best Jake I can be” journey, it burns brighter and brighter.

Human beings are infinitely capable and you are one of them.  So, maybe you are a super hero after all.

Pick a barrier in your life and break through it.  Don’t just chip away at it slowly but surely, smash it to bits.

You too are capable of amazing things.
